Here at The Mindless Catalog, I want to dedicate my first post to what led me to create this blog in the first place: retired NBA superstar, Carmelo Anthony. After a friendly debate with a good friend on who in the NBA, past or present, has the most beautiful jumper, I wanted to start my own blog to catalog my thoughts and opinions on the many things I find exciting or interesting in general.
In terms of “beautiful”, I’m referring to the fluidity, motion, smoothness, follow through and overall finesse of the jump shot whether it be at mid-range or a three pointer. I am simply not referring to the accuracy of the jump shot itself. After having watched the NBA for a couple decades, I can confidently say that Carmelo Anthony’s jump shot looks absolutely the most beautiful. It really looks and feels like poetry in motion. With what looks like a simple flick of the wrist at the highest point of his jump after what looks and feels like a very minimal pause, it similarly reminds me of either Aaron Rodgers or Michael Vick in the NFL where a throw 40+ yards down the field looks effortless.
I’d have to say a close second would either be Michael Jordan’s turnaround jumper or Ray Allen’s jump shot. In terms of a pure standing jump shot, it would have to be between Ray Allen and Carmelo Anthony and my pick is with the latter. It’s very close, but there’s just something with Melo’s jumper that makes me want to watch it again and again, even in slow motion to this day.
As a bonus, his back to back extremely tough three pointers against the Chicago Bulls never fails to get me hyped!
