So, this one got a lot of hype on Reddit. But I didn’t take the bait. Oh, no. I’ve had my fair share of hyped up movies, only to be met with disappointment. Therefore, I refused to watch the trailer. Heck, I hadn’t even realized until the start of the movie that Nicolas Cage was involved. All I knew going in was that it starred Maika Monroe and that it had something to do with a criminal killing spree. That was it.

After having finished the movie, I can say that I’m only slightly above average disappointed. While it’s not a great movie, it kept me guessing at the very end as to how the actual evil was to be revealed and described. As a movie with such a small cast, it’s inevitable that many viewers will have sniffed out the protagonist’s involvement somehow from a mile away. The only question is: will the payoff and explanation be worthy of its 1 hour and 40 minute runtime? As a slow-burner type of horror, there was very little character development with Lee. I remember her being stoned face for the entire movie.
What I detest the most is when people say how great the actors were, especially Nicolas Cage. Well, yes, I guess one can call it a great performance, only because the rest of the two or three other cast members were such cardboard characters with zero personalities. Hilariously, I couldn’t take the Longlegs character seriously. I felt that Nicolas Cage was just doing “Nicolas Cage” stuff and literally just playing his usual crazy self and having fun while doing it. It was hard for me to unsee and separate the “Nicolas Cage” actor from the character he was playing as Longlegs. I guess that’s what happens when you’ve seen too many meme’s of a person online.
