Know which hip-hop trio supergroup have just two albums under their belt and yet still had a “best of” album compilation? Westside Connection. That’s right. The trio consisting of Mack 10, Ice Cube and WC have put out some bangers for the West Coast. Their first album together went platinum, and their second went gold. Bow Down is an instant west coast classic in the 90s and beyond. Unfortunately, the group is no longer together from what I gather as there’s certain drama with Mack 10 and Ice Cube specifically.
In this episode, I want to highlight a recent joint by Mack 10 that got me extremely hooked on. You see, every coast has a unique sound. Everywhere from the west, east, south to the midwest all have their distinct sound that once it comes on, you can take a good guess and more times than not, you’ll get it correct. One of the legendary west coast producer, Battlecat, produced this song, and you can instantly tell and feel that west coast vibe just bursting from it. If you look at his catalog, it is extremely deep. Being that it was only released in 2023, it still got that west coast vibe from the golden years of hip-hop in the 90s and early 2000s. It’s so damn smooth. Coupled that with Mack 10’s smooth and laid back flow as well, and this is one track that will be in my rotation for a while. While I’m not holding my breath for a Westside Connection reunion anytime soon, I can, however, hope for a new Mack 10 album. Many west coast OG hip-hop icons are back in the game as Ice Cube has just released his new album, and I’ve also heard a couple new joints from Xzibit as well.
Enjoy King of Chevys by Mack 10, produced by DJ Battlecat.
