Look it here, I admit I used to not know much about rappers in general. If they had a hit song on the radio, then that’s all I had to go with. I didn’t know nor care to know if they were affiliated with any gangs and whatnot. Other than some of the more televised hip hop beefs, such as between Tupac and Biggie, it was generally smooth sailing in my eyes. Just enjoy the music was how I looked at it. Well, the Internet obviously changed everything! Back in those days, hip hop forums and boards were what I had used the Internet mainly for. Not only was it a way to get the music I wanted (😏), but it was also a place where gossip, rumors, and all other kinds of information could be shared between members. I remember a while ago learning about MC Hammer and how he was NOT an artist that you wanted to mess with. Like for real, kind. You mean, that goofy looking dude with that one hit song dancing nonstop in those goofy ass pants? YES. That Hammer.
While I can’t remember the stories shared on those forum boards, I do remember running into a video a couple of years ago where Redman, a hip-hop legend himself, talks hilariously about how he had a run-in with MC Hammer and verifies that yes, Hammer don’t play! I love Redman and I likely could hear him talk stories for days, but this interview he did with DJ Vlad is one of those videos that I just have to rewatch every now and then just due to how hilarious it is. The way he said “Yes sir!” when he was confronted by Hammer got me in tears the first time around. As someone mentioned, looking back at it, why wouldn’t someone believe the stories about Hammer? I mean, look at the way the brother moves in the video! 😂
Here is another DJ Vlad interview with MC Serch regarding MC Hammer:
If more proof is required, even hip hop legends Outkast briefly mention how MC Hammer will beat your ass if you run up on him! 😂
