Tennessee is known for country music and whiskey. But if you ask hip-hop heads, they’ll likely say that the state is also known for being the home of the legendary group, Three 6 Mafia. Them boys were wild back then. They had a ton of classics. When the Smoke Clears: Sixty 6, Sixty 1 and some of their older works always seem to find a way into my playlist rotation on Spotify. And yes, they won Grammy awards. But let’s put that all aside because in this episode, I want to highlight a pretty recent song by Juicy J, frontman of Three 6 Mafia, along with his blood brother, Project Pat. This is one song I just can’t stop playing.

While I don’t believe Project Pat is an official member of the group, I’m sure many fans don’t care because he’s likely treated as if he’s a member. I am such a fan of Project Pat. Dude has got a style and cadence that just can’t be matched! When he raps, you know it’s Pattahhh!!! Both he and Juicy J have distinct styles, and that’s what I like about them. Juicy J also has a pretty unique voice, and he’s one hell of a producer. Many would even say he’s a heavily underrated one at that.
For episode #13, I’ve selected “Fit the Mode.” This hit is off of Juicy J’s 2024 album, Ravenite Social Club. This song hits just right with both of their flows, the laid-back beat, and of course, the lyrics and theme of the song. I’m really looking forward to the day the brothers make an album with each other laced with songs similar to this. You know, tracks that may not light up the club or dance floor like they used to or make people want to start a riot, but more so songs that are catered to their mature fans. Both aren’t likely getting any younger, so if they’re able to put together an album that reflects what they’ve gone through in their journey, giving advice to the younger generation and all, man, that album would be so sick.
Hope y’all enjoy Fit the Mode as much as I have.
