WHAT A SERIES! I’m so damn glad I gave Creature Commandos a chance. I had my doubts at first, but am I glad I watched it. It’s been a while since I had this much fun with a DC Universe animation. I had watched both Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 of The Watchmen animation, and although I definitely enjoyed the darker side of the DC universe, it was just okay. Creature Commandos is just as dark but with a more vibrant animation palette and a lot more humor packed in. Underneath all that violence and carnage, the series really underscores how much of a tragedy it is as well.

Each of the character’s stories has a really sad background to them. It is this aspect that kept me glued to the screen to learn more about each of the monsters and how they came to be. Let’s be real here. Weasel’s story was, to me, one of the saddest ones of the bunch next to Nina’s. Both of them really aren’t “monsters” in that they weren’t incarcerated for murdering innocent people. I believe The Bride also falls into this category. Weasel, to me, was just hilarious throughout the entire series anytime he was on screen. Yes, just the fact that he’s in the shot with his lazy eyes and body posture was enough for me to laugh out loud each and every time. His story, though, man, those onion ninjas be hitting me hard in episode 4. 😭

I can’t wait for season 2. This is one of the few animations that I’m actually looking forward to. There was a nice balance of violence and story with the whole bad/good princess and whatnot. The animation, of course, is top-notch. With The Bride leading the team going forward, who knows what kind of new trouble her team will get into on their next assignment? I can’t think of anything else to write about this series other than to just go ahead and just watch it!
