Death Whisperer – Movie

·

Here we go again! Back at it with another horror movie coming out of Thailand! Surprisingly, Death Whisperer was a pretty decent movie. Sure, as with seemingly all Asian horror flicks hailing from countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia, to name a few off the top of my head that I’ve watched, the themes usually don’t stray too far from each other. Yes, I’m talking about spiritual possession. This is actually absolutely fine with me. I’ll watch these types of movies any day of the week. They still give me the damn creeps if done right. Besides, if your movie gets enough love for a part 2, that must usually mean something, right?

Death Whisperer is basically, spirit possesses initial person, said person dies, it somehow finds its way into another host, family and friends of host starts to begin freaking out at host’s weird behavior, shaman gets called into action to usually fail only to set final showdown between family and host to battle the spiritual demon. And of course, where Asian horror movies like these are also concerned, expect a lot of gore along the way. I was surprised to discover that for a two hour movie it held my attention for as long as it did.

HELL NAW
NGL, this was some scary ass shit! Sometimes, a faraway shot like this can be much scarier than the typical closeup in-your-face kind.

Death Whisperer supports a pretty cool cast to round things out and for that I’m always grateful of. I guess a couple of things kinda don’t make sense that I caught? For one, is no one really going to explain the meaning of their big ass bamboo tree/grove? Yes, they found some foul entrails hidden deep within the grove, of which I can only assume was planted there by the previous possessed host but what exactly does it mean? Secondly, once the brothers get wind of Yam getting possessed, why would they continue to hunt her or the spirit down with a shotgun?! Pretty sure it is common knowledge by now that shooting the host with a shotgun will only kill the host with the demon escaping only to find yet another host. Yes, I kid and joke but I just found it funny at times. But no one said anything with using a frigging samurai sword, am I right?

I’m actually excited to watch Death Whisperer 2! Yam played her role pretty well. I’m not sure if her older sister would do as well playing the possessed role but it will be fun to find out.
