I love the rap music genre, but I never could get into trap or drill music. That, or the type of songs that feature very similar sounding beats that rely heavily on bass along with the rappers mumble rapping and whatnot. Heck, I can’t even get into the more popular southern type raps that are also similar in style, where it just sounds like all bass and noise, along with rappers screaming for no other reason than to make a song. They seriously give me a headache. Not only that, but there are many times when I have no idea what it is they are even rapping about when they are actually mumble rapping, slow or fast, soft or loud. So, how is it that, with all things considered, I now find myself listening to a type of trap music? More specifically, a specific Chinese rapper hailing from China. Say what?

I was smiling so hard when I first heard this song because I immediately knew it was special, and I had to check out more from this guy. His name is “SKAI isyourgod.” While I still can’t understand what exactly he’s rapping about, his delivery, ad-libs, and cadence in making the words just flow over the beat is hypnotic. Seriously, this guy is killing it. I remember when MC Jin blew up the rap scene in Hong Kong after (or before?) claiming some fame in the United States as a freestyle battle rapper and even being signed to Ruff Ryders. Well, this guy is not that type of rapper.

The song highlighted here is called 八方来财, which translates to Wealth from All Directions. His entire album slaps hard as well. I hope dude gets a lot more recognition in the coming years. I know it’s only early 2025 but I already have a good feeling that this song is going to be in my Spotify Wrapped list at the end of the year as one of the most played! 🤣
