Back in the mid-90’s, a rapper came along that lit the rap scene up. He had a very unique style. He would sometimes mumble his words, occasionally shout them, he could rap slow or fast, and most uniquely, he would at times just sound as if he was talking over the beat but in his own cadence, style and most importantly, his unlimited energy. This rapper packaged all this up and made it his own sound. His style was so unique at the time that he got signed to No Limit Records. His name is Mystikal. I don’t believe I can remember hearing another rapper with a similar style as him. Until now…
I recently stumbled upon an up-and-coming rapper going by the name of Jimi Nu. His story is that he’s the legitimate son of Mystikal. Some people are saying that’s false and that Mystikal’s real biological son goes by another name, etc. Jimi Nu himself, though, recently did an interview where he squashed all rumors and admitted that he is indeed Mystikal’s son. Anyways, I don’t really care too much about that. The kid is able to rap just like Mystikal, and he sounds just as good doing it. If I were trying to imitate a rapper’s flow and style, Mystikal, I think, wouldn’t be anywhere on the top of my list. Why? Because I think it’s so damn hard due to what I mentioned earlier. Jimi Nu seemingly is able to capture what Mystikal did and run with it. I’m eagerly awaiting the day this kid drops a full-length album.
In the meantime, check out this song of his called @Mystikal1. This type of beat matches his flow and style like no other. It’s still very early in 2026 but I have a feeling that this will be one of my most played songs of the year.
