This was an alright but ultimately mediocre series. Apple TV+ series rarely miss, and even for those shows that are below standard, they rarely make me quit. I’m not sure how many times I’ve written that, but it always felt true to me. Bad Sisters, as a dark family comedy, gave me some chuckles from time to time. It didn’t tend to go overboard with the comedy, nor did it tilt too much towards the darker side.

There’s usually one member in the family that you’d like to get rid of. It could be anyone, but mainly, they are just plain ol’ assholes. Bad Sisters revolves around five tightly bonded sisters having to deal with a mega supreme asshole of a brother-in-law. We learn how JP wrongs each of the five sisters, and it’s no wonder they begin to make plans to get rid of him for good.

Jean Paul, played by Claes Bang, this guy was awesome in this series. Many a times, I think it’s harder to play the role of the villain and have everyone truly and I mean truly hate you with everything they’ve got than a goody good guy to be loved by all. Bro played Jean Paul’s douche character effortlessly without breaking a sweat. Grace, as JP’s meek and unassuming wife, her entire life is spent in the shadows of her husband. She’s constantly being bullied, with no courage to stand up for herself. Her character can be a bit annoying at times, but we must remember there is such a real thing as domestic abuse. I’m sure viewers would have wanted Grace to just stop being such a coward, but they obviously don’t realize how hard that can be for someone with Grace’s personality. It’s not as simple as just turning on a switch. The manipulation done by JP to separate Grace from her four other sisters also plays into her psyche. Along with trying to kill JP for Grace, we’ll learn of how each sister got their sour dosage of him as well.

It’s obvious that the sisters are not good at what they do. They make many dumb mistakes along the way, but once again, I have to remind myself that that is sort of the point with these types of comedies. However, the one ultimately dumb thing I cannot forgive is how they didn’t even think of getting their alibis correct. In fact, it seems like they didn’t even plan for it, even after the Claffin brothers alerted them to their presence in investigating the insurance claim. I guess it also shows how dumb both of the brothers were when they didn’t actually verify their alibi of being together at a dinner on the night JP died until the very end.

I loved Bibi’s character but she took a backseat to Becka towards the latter half. Speaking of, Becka’s on and off romance with Matt was just brutal at times and miserable to watch. Did I like the ending? Meh, sort of. I think the best way to put it is that the lead up to the finale was a bit flat and uninspiring and didn’t feel worth all that build up. But I guess it works. What I don’t understand is making a season two for this show. Things ended perfectly in the season finale. So what will they do in the next season with JP already dead? I can only guess that the sisters will get investigated anew by new detectives and it’s going to be the same ol’ dance again of playing cat and mouse. Will they at least make the sisters somewhat more competent? I’m really on the fence on whether to watch it or not.
