Jack Ryan: Ghost War – Movie

·

I can at least congratulate myself for making it to the very end of the movie to see whether my thoughts about it are shared by the majority. It’s quite obvious to me that this entire Jack Ryan series with John Krasinski on Amazon Prime needs some serious fresh talent if the show is to continue. This movie is a joke to the franchise. It’s plain to see how tired, bored and uninspired both John and the other cast members were. It seems like even they were sick of this franchise and just did the bare minimum to get the job done and collect a paycheck.

To be fair, the script and direction of the movie didn’t help. I mean, seriously, how generic and cookie-cutter can this get? However, what I didn’t expect was how cringe some of the dialogue was at times. That whole spiel in the conference room between Greer and Jack about patriotism and doing what needs to be done is just unwatchable, and it’s a damn shame it came to that. I don’t even want to get into the whole political aspect of it, but you talk all this talk about defending the USA and then shoot the movie entirely in the United Arab Emirates? How much money did they provide for that nice piece of advertising?

The story here is also laughably horrible. The whole Greer subplot with his past unit coming back to haunt him is just so uninspired and lazy, both in the writing and the plotting. The villain seems to have been conjured straight out of some C-grade, ultra-low-budget movie. I honestly can’t find a single redeeming quality in this movie. There’s really not much else to talk about, so I’m going to stop here. I doubt it but I hope newcomers to this series don’t watch this movie and be put off by the series.
